EDITORIAL STANDARDS

AI and Technology Policy

Technology helps us research, transcribe and publish, but human editors remain responsible for everything we publish.

Human responsibility

Every story is written, edited and approved by people. No story is published without a human editor reviewing it.

Where AI is used

We may use AI-assisted tools for transcription, translation drafts, research summaries and metadata suggestions. These outputs are verified by a person before use.

Where AI is not used

We do not publish AI-generated profiles, interviews or historical accounts as editorial content, and we do not use AI to fabricate quotes or sources.

Disclosure

When AI-assisted tools materially contribute to a published piece, we disclose that in the story.

Images

We do not present AI-generated imagery as documentary photography of real people, places or events.
